Izabel comes from a very nsfw canon which includes violence, sex, harsh/derogatory language, and death, and doesn't pull any punches even for its underaged characters. Izabel herself is dead, missing the lower half of her body and having her intestines exposed. Her ghost powers give her the ability to project visually and auditorily convincing illusions into the minds of others (so long as they are not mechanic.) The family she travels with is made up of soldiers deeply affected by the war and is being hunted down by both sides' governments.
